Dr. Barry Schechter MD
Dr. Barry Schechter is a native of New York City but currently resides in the southern US. He was always interested in the visual arts which eventually let him to become an ophthalmologist.
After undertaking a fellowship in corneal transplant surgery and diseases of the surface of the eye at the University of Texas, he concentrated on developing new techniques to treat tumors of the ocular surface, on developing new techniques for cataract surgery, and treating dry eye disease.
His research interests led him to become a member of the prestigious and exclusive “Castro Viejo Cornea Society” where his thesis was accepted. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Schechter has authored over 20 peer reviewed articles in the scientific literature and many other articles in ophthalmology trade journals. He is a sought after speaker and has spoken in South America, Asia, Europe, and across the USA about diseases of the anterior segment of the eye and surgical treatments for them to both other physicians and researchers.
He has co-authored a book chapter on complicated cataract surgeries and he is frequently referred to difficult cases.
Years ago, he co-developed a screening device to detect eye disease in children which was then purchased by a respected equipment manufacturer and is now sold worldwide.
Schechter is an animal lover and has many dogs and cats in his life. After helping Dr. Davidson with the formulation of the “dry eye drink” and other medical devices for dry eye, he decided to branch out and help our canine friends with their eye problems.
After consulting with leading veterinary eye specialists, Cane-eye was created which we believe will help make a positive impact on your dog’s ocular health for years to come.
